Mountain biking on snow is a little crazy, but it's part of who we are. Depending on conditions, this race is either the downhill of doom or a slush slog for bikers but either way is exciting to race and entertaining to watch. Racers get 1 single look lap of the course before the ‘Mass start’ race to the finish line.
Ngā Wāhine ō te Maunga ("Women of the Mountain") is a day for women of all levels and disciplines to have an epic day on the snow together!

Cardrona Parks crew and GoldX Events are bringing rails down onto Lower McDougall's for an epic school holiday rail jam. The day kicks off with practice in the morning but then gets serious when we cut to the top few shredders to battle head-to-head for the final for podium places and prizes. The set up will have side by side rail features, similar to Stag Lane for those who love to grind. This event showcases park rail riding and gives all the rookies a change to step up against the pro's, spectators don't need to be able to ski or board to watch this event, as the park will be an easy walk from Base.
Start your season off with some bragging rights!

Wanaka's local ambassadors and clubbies annually host Race Ya Mates which is a social Combi Slalom course set up on the All Nations Trail. Anyone interested in racing can register at the top of the course and will be timed and ranked against other locals and visitors. Race your mates or just give it a go, or just ski by to check out the action.

Cardrona Kids Cup is for children 11 years and under, Lil Bucks Park is the ideal entry level park for kids so we're hosting a school holiday slopestyle competition to keep the family entertained. The event includes ride on boxes and tabletop jumps spread down a 600m course. Competitors get 1 and a half hours to practice before dropping in for 2 judged runs. The scoring is live, and the event includes music & commentary. Kids win medals and the day includes food & refreshments
Cardrona Park Attack brings the top freestyle skiers and snowboarders from all regions to Cardrona for round 1 of the SSNZ National Slopestyle Series. The course includes the lower section of Stag Lane and upper section (3 tabletops) of the Antler Alley Park. This event is judged by a panel of experienced judges to ensure the top talent step onto the podium and earn points for the National series.

Piki Maunga Rangatahi is a Big Mountain Freeride competition for kids 15 and under, hosted on our Cardrona Black and Double Black Slopes. All Competitors get to inspect the slope prior establishing a line and dropping in. The judges will be looking at line choice, power and control with points deducted for crashes and loss of control. This event showcases the up-and-coming ski & snowboard free ride talent in the region and medals are awarded for podium places.

Inter-fields racing has been the steppingstone for all of New Zealand's top ski racers for decades. The series includes races at every major ski area in the country and provides a great social gathering of the next generation of racers and their families, many with a lifetime involvement in the sport. Cardrona Inter-fields is hosted by the Wanaka Ski and Snow Sports Club and relies on assistance from volunteer marshals and race officials.

International Alpine Ski Racing finally returns to Cardrona for the Wanaka Ski Club's Tech Series. The start list will include international racers alongside New Zealand’s best, who compete in Giant slalom (GS) and Slalom (SL). Racers Earn FIS points from the overall results, which rank them for National Teams selection and qualification for World Cup races in the Northern Hemisphere.

Location: Treble Cone Ski Area
The TC Mini Mountain is a single day youth freeride competition for skiers and snowboarders aged 15 and under. The trail for the event will be a Red /Black off-piste slope with a variety of terrain, including rocks bumps and jumps. Competitors will have 40 minutes of inspection prior to a single judged run. Returning this season is our parent division where mum or dad can also compete and receive a score which is combined with their child’s score to determine a single podium family award.
Treble Cones Banked Slalom is New Zealand’s longest-running snowboard event and a great social catch up for all ages. Banked Slalom is a recreation race for strong intermediate to advanced boarders. Competitors should be capable and confident riding off-piste at Treble Cone to enter. The course is steep and fast with triangle stubby race gates. Competitors get 2 timed runs with the fastest single time determining the results. Racers missing a gate will be disqualified and will not receive a time for that run.
Special Olympics New Zealand have hosted skiing camps and racing at Cardrona for decades and every 4 years host a National Event. The Special Olympic Games is a 5-day festival for local and visiting skiers and snowboarders with intellectual disabilities and physical disabilities. On the final days Cardrona host Giant Slalom and Slalom races in the main basin. All racers are graded then a handicap percentage is used to calculate the race times and podium results. The awards presentation in the courtyard at the end of racing adds a new level of stoke to standing on the podium and is a joy to watch.
The TC Ski Masters is an alpine ski race for skiers 18 years and older. The Treble Cone event is a Giant Slalom only which is set on Upper Mainstreet starting above the Altitude Café. To minimize trail closures racers 2nd run is scheduled to start 15 minutes after the finish of the 1st runs. If required, the course will be re-dressed however it is likely to just be slipped by the race crew.

Treble Cone will host a Giant Slalom which starts beside the Altitude Cafe and is set down the Mainstreet trail. Not many races have a cafe at the race start which creates a great family social scene for competitors and parents to enjoy.
Conceived by our NZ Free ski champion Sam Lee, the TC Gnarlom is an inaugural off piste slalom race down Gnarly terrain in the saddle or Powderbowl. Using Ski-cross GS gates and panels the course route includes bumps, jumps and even some drops so this race is not for beginner or even intermediate skiers. The Gnarlom is the Ski equivalent of TC banked slalom so Snowboarders are not permitted to race. For those who step onto the podium earn the biggest bragging rights.

We will have an on-mountain DJ playing in our Pride Zone from 11.30am – 1.30pm, so be ready for a lunch time boogie and some amazing vibes.
Tuesday 30th August
We are hosting our first ever Treble Cone Pride event Boogie in the Bumps! We're setting up a race down the easiest mogul run on the mountain and bringing together a panel of judges, a DJ and commentator to score all the competitors who enter. Rather than jumps, the middle of the course has a dance floor and the finish line includes deck chairs, bean bags and drinks for anyone keen to drop in. Entry is free, there are no divisions and the entire mountain is officially 80's themed with dress up strongly encouraged.

Our annual on mountain onesie day returns to Cardrona. This is a day on the slopes all about dressing up warm, snuggly, and silly. Pink and fluffy, cartoon character, super hero, or cute animal - whatever your onesie, bring it, wear it and work it!
Saturday 3rd September
Get ready to light up the Cardrona slopes in a massive, colourful ski parade. So, dress loud! Flags, onesies, hats, bags: anything vibrant to paint the mountain rainbow as we ski and board from the top. The Parade starts at 2pm, but please be at the top of the slope nice and early to make sure you're ready to go.

The Winter Games Team are hosting a Big Air and Halfpipe showdown event in Big Bucks Park and the Olympic Halfpipe. With the New Zealand border opening again, this event is a chance for our top New Zealanders to compete against visiting internationals as the quadrennial pathway begins for the next Winter Olympics scheduled for 2026 in Milano Cortina Italy.

Returning to the events calendar this winter is the Jossi Wells Invitational Big Air with the addition of a Park Jam and the new TC Transfer event. Jossi personally invites a select few of the sport’s most progressive skiers and boarders to Wanaka for 5 days of freestyle riding and 3 days of competition. The Jossi Wells Invitational concludes with the party of the winter at a soon to be announced location where locals get to socialize with the world’s best and celebrate the conclusion of another epic event.
Sanctioned by School Sport NZ the South Island inter-secondary Schools bring the South Island based schools from Tasman, Canterbury, Otago & Southland to Cardrona for a Regional Championship. The Alpine racing is either a Giant Slalom (GS) or Banked Slalom (BSL). The course and update will be confirmed at entry. The Freestyle Discipline will be a park event with 3 tabletop jumps only and no rails. Depending on interest, a halfpipe jam could also be included.
Cardrona will be hosting the 5th Annual Upper Clutha Primary School Race (UCPSR) this winter. This is a popular local primary schools race which includes a side by side Giant Slalom and Banked Slalom race. All competitors compete in a team and have a single timed run in each course with combined times determining results. Each team then combines their results to award the winning teams in each discipline.
The Alpine Youth Champs finishes up the alpine race series for winter, prior to National teams selection and youth development camps. This is part of the pathway Alice Robinson took towards stepping onto the FIS World Cup podium and the Olympic Stage. Racing is for U14 – U19 athletes. Entry is via Snow Sports NZ web site and Ski Racing New Zealand.

Formerly The Junior Freestyle Nationals, however this event has had an upgrade to include all ages and an open division. The open division competes in our plus size Big Bucks Park and Olympic Half Pipe. Age division specific competitions are also hosted in Antler Alley and the International Halfpipe. A Big Air has been added, however the jump is yet to be confirmed and will be announced when entries open. Ski and Snowboard cross and U12 Big Mountain remain and The cross will include a Masters (30+) and Vets (40+) Division.
Celebrate the transition from Winter to Summer at Cardrona with a ski, snowboard & mountain bike race from the top of Cardrona Alpine resort to the Cardrona Hotel. The race includes fun challenges on skis and an epic mountain-bike ride. This year we’ve removed the team division so everyone gets to enjoy the entire adventure. Competitors should be confident skiers or snowboarder and capable mountain-bikers. Transport back to the resort base is provided to enable drivers to retrieve their vehicles.
