We've got a snowy weekend ahead and we're ready to open Captain's – this week's Cardrona What's On is packed full of goodness!

We've had a blast up here at Cardrona since our last What's On blog! We kicked off the season in style, we met the Prime Minister, and we even had come cheeky early-season pow laps on Wednesday.

Big thanks to the Patrol team for all their hard work in the first week of the season <3 Photo: Mat Woods

Next week the July school holidays are in full force for most Kiwi families – please be patient with our teams and kind to each other in the busiest period of our winter season... we're excited to see you all out skiing and snowboarding together!

FACILITIES

We're ready to open Captain's! At this stage it'll be ungroomed (until we get some more snow), but the lift and cafe are ready to go.

On the snow front, we have good news: it's looking like we're getting a big storm through this weekend, bringing a decent amount of snow. That means the weather might not allow us to open Captain's tomorrow, but we'll keep you updated on our Snow Reports group on Facebook. As soon as the weather allows, we'll open Captain's!

WEATHER

Snow-Forecast.com are predicting a stormy, snowy weekend. At this stage it looks like there might be wee breaks in the weather on Sunday and Monday, so keep watching the webcams because you might just get a few amazing runs!

TERRAIN PARKS

We've had some great feedback on McPark V.2 so a big thanks to the crew who've been riding it for the first week. The grooming team are starting to put together Lil' Bucks and the snow in the forecast should help get that park underway. Keep an eye on the Cardrona Parks Instagram stories – the crew are keeping everyone up to date with developments there.

Don't forget to check out the beginner park features on the Beginners' Area!

EVENTS

This Sunday the Wanaka Ski and Snowsports Club are running a fun and friendly event called "Race Ya Mates". They'll have a dual slalom course set up and you can check out more information on their Facebook page.

TREBLE CONE

Over at TC they're back up and running after a few days of rebuilding! The Saddle opened today (ungroomed) and the snow in the forecast should make for some primo school holiday conditions over there.

THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR

Our top school holiday tip: if you (or the kids) forget one sock, or glove, or even some sunscreen, pop into the on-mountain Cardrona Shop. They've got pretty much everything in there – they even sell snowboards! The team in there are wonderful and know all of the things, so they can help you get kitted out with anything that might be forgotten in the school holiday hustle and bustle.
