It's the first long weekend we've ever celebrated during the winter season - here's What's On this Matariki weekend.

Kia ora and welcome to this week's What's On - it's a day early because tomorrow kicks off a long weekend. We want to wish you all a fantastic day with your whānau as you reflect and celebrate Aotearoa's first Matariki public holiday. Here in Wānaka we're excited for the annual celebration and fireworks at the Dinosaur Park on Saturday - it's one of our favourite nights of the winter and we hope to see a few of you there.

With the fantastic start to the season snow-wise, this is a perfect time to visit. There are no lift lines, and the snow is skiing and riding really well. With just a week until the first wave of July school holidays comes, it's a great week to get some good turns in.

Treble Cone opens tomorrow for the first time this season! We can't wait to get up there for a ride - you can find out more about TC's opening day below.

WEATHER FORECAST

The team at SnowsBest.com are predicting a bit of a snowy/sunny mix of a weekend, with some more snow possible at the start of next week. Join our Facebook Snow Reports Group or load up the website Snow Report from 6.30am daily to see what conditions are doing each day.

TREBLE CONE

Treble Cone is opening tomorrow, a day early! The huge early snowfall set the team up for a rip-roaring start to Winter 2022, and they can't wait to welcome you back to TC for another season.

The snowfall has, however, brought some challenges which may affect how the team operate both on the mountain and the road. This means there may be some temporary closures around the mountain and on the road on sunny days due to avalanche risk. Please carpool when you can to reduce how many vehicles need to park up top (or take the free mountain shuttle), and respect any terrain closures if the team need to put any in place.

EVENTS

This Sunday is our first event of the season - the Cardrona Mountain Bikes on Snow presented by Torpedo7 is back! It's a whoooole lot of carnage and a tonne of fun, so make sure you come on up and either join in or check out the madness.

This was last year's MTBOS... just so you know what you're in for:

TERRAIN PARKS

McPark 4.0 is back! Alongside the full Lil' Bucks beginner park, the Crew has now installed a few features at the top of McDougall's as well. Early next week they're looking to start building Stag Lane, so watch this space.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

This is your weekly reminder that our food and beverage outlets could look quite different this year, but the food will still be delicious, we promise! From one day to the next there may be different offerings in each outlet (depending on staffing levels, isolation requirements etc), so your patience and understanding is really appreciated by us and our team.

ALL IN

Have you seen All In yet? It's our short documentary about women in Snow Sports - you can watch it here:
