Winter's still all to play for, and the 2022 Jossi Wells Invitational is on the way!

Welcome to the jam-packed edition of this week's What's On! There's a lot happening up the maunga in the next few weeks, so it's fantastic that the tail-end of winter has delivered the goods for an early cold spring snap.

After a two-year hiatus, we're stoked that the Monster Energy Jossi Wells Invitational has finally made it back to our slopes! The list of athletes is stacked, 95 total confirmed, including Olympic medallists Sage Kotsenburg, Joss Christensen, Su Yiming, Kelly Sildaru, Alex Hall, Colby Stevenson, Tess Coady and NZ’s own Zoi Sadowski-Synnott.

We're expecting it to go off, with Big Air, a rail jam, and for the first time, the TC Shoot-Out over at Treble Cone! It's an event you're not going to want to miss. Check out more info here, and here's the teaser trailer to get excitement building:

DRAGON week started this week, and they're running awesome daily giveaways. There's heaps of stuff up for grabs that we guarantee you'll want to get your hands on. They're also celebrating the start of Jossi Wells Invitational next week with some unreal gear for you to win. Check out either @cardronanz or @dragonausnz for more information on how to enter.

Speaking of social media: the start of next week marks Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori. Tune into our Instagram story for morning takeovers with Laura Wotton about Māori Language Week, get ready to practise your Te Reo Māori!

This week, the Cardrona and Treble Cone whānau planted native trees at Walter Peak to commemorate Conservation Week NZ. Conservation has played a big part in our mountain operations over the last few years and you've been awesome in supporting us with it. You can read our blog all about all our conservation efforts here.

If you're already thinking ahead to summer, we've teamed up with our mates at Bike Glendhu to create the Mountain Bike Hero Pass. Think: riding two mountains all summer, but with one pass. Learn more about it here.

And don't forget: our ongoing message is to remember to take advantage of our user-friendly ticketing kiosks. If you've purchased tickets and passes online, you can head directly to pick them up from these machines, rather than queue to speak to our ticketing team.

WEATHER FORECAST

We've had a few sprinkles of snow throughout this week setting us up well for all the upcoming events. Snow-forecast.com is telling us to expect cold but clear days all through this weekend too, so bring on the spring sunshine.

Join our Facebook Snow Reports Group or load up the website Snow Report from 6.30 am daily to see what conditions are doing each day.

TREBLE CONE

Snow has also blessed TC's slopes throughout this week, with more cold temps and clear days due for the weekend.

The Saddle Track and the Saddle Basin are both now open! If you missed it, here's TC Manager Ewan's pretty positive update on the snowpack:

EVENTS

As you can tell, we're pretty excited for the 2022 JWI starting next week. Events will run on the best weather days, so keep an eye on our social channels for when we're all go. There's also a livestream of the Big Air day brought to you by The ACC. It'll go live on Facebook and YouTube.

The beginning of the week also hosted the rescheduled Winter Games NZ Halfpipe and Slopestyle events for freeski and snowboard. We've loved watching all the competitors hit Cardrona and the Parks. This weekend, we're hosting the Winter Games STOMP series. This consists of a Big Air event and a Park Jam, hitting our infamous Big Air and a rail garden, purpose-built by our Parks crew. The competition is co-designed with athletes so you can expect to see them showcase their style, skills and technique. Find a breakdown of the events here.

Congratulations to all the competitors and winners for throwing down, especially in challenging conditions:

TERRAIN PARKS

This week saw the Parks Crew rebuild Lower Antlers Alley's rail garden for the STOMP Park Jam. The final event is on Sunday. It's also amazing to finally see Big Air open as of yesterday, with the STOMP final hitting it on Saturday.

You can expect rebuilds of both the rail garden and Big Air for JWI next week.

Some quick Parks housekeeping: there's a private halfpipe camp happening at the start of October, which means it'll be closed to the public at the end of September. More specific details will be soon to follow.

FOOD & BEVERAGE

This is your weekly reminder that our food and beverage outlets could look quite different this year, but the food will still be delicious, we promise! From one day to the next, there may be different offerings in each outlet (depending on staffing levels, isolation requirements etc.), so your patience and understanding is really appreciated by us and our team.
