Winter 2018 was a stellar year up at Cardrona – we broke the visitor number records we set in 2017, & had the third highest aggregate snowfall since records began 17 years ago! The season was action-packed, with both grassroots athletes & the world's best skiers & snowboarders taking part in events this winter. We can't wait to do it all again in 2019!

The 2018 #JWInvitational was a pretty epic week to be a spectator!

Speaking of 2019... there's even MORE happening for next winter that you're gonna want to know about! So here we go, this is what we've got in the works for next season...

TERRAIN

The team at Doppelmayr NZ have upcycled the old McDougall's Quad & we're reinstalling it below Captain's Basin! The Pringles Quad is all set to be installed by Winter 2020, & in the meantime, we've extended our resort boundary to include the advanced Pringles terrain & Secret Bowl. If you're riding Pringles you'll need to be an advanced skier or snowboarder, & be happy to walk out over marked, untracked rocky terrain to the bottom of Valley View.

Once this terrain & lift is open, we'll be starting to turn our sights to the proposed Soho development – things are getting really, really exciting up here!

BASE BUILDINGS

Last summer we did a major upgrade of both Base & Mezz – this summer, we're cranking the Base Area developments up a notch! Here's the plan:

  • The Ticket Office/Guest Services is moving to the carpark end of Rentals – a brand new ticketing & welcome area in a location that makes much more sense as it's the first building you hit from the carparks.
  • The retail shop (the General Store) is moving into the existing Ticket Office & is getting a new name & whole new offering – watch this space for more info!
  • You asked for more seating, & we heard you. We're expanding Base Café seating into the current retail space, a much-needed 48% increase in seating!

TERRAIN & SNOW

As well as opening up the Pringles terrain for 2019, we've got a summer of trail work planned, as well as continuing to upgrade our snowmaking facilities. Our terrain & snow team are dedicated to improving our trail network every year, as well as making sure we offer a consistent ski season.

We just wanted to say a massive thank you for all your support for what we do now, & what we've got planned in the future. We're so stoked all our people are frothing on our vision for Cardrona, & we can't wait to keep delivering on that vision over the next few years!

While you're waiting for Winter 2019, remember we open for mountain biking, mountain carting, hiking, sightseeing, stargazing, dining & more from December 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019. Come up & check out all we do during summer – you'll have a wicked time up here!
