We know that not everyone who comes on a New Zealand holiday is here to ride down mountains. At Cardrona, we offer different options for our guests who aren’t skiers or bikers, or just want to take a break and try something different.
Ride in a gondola cabin on the McDougall’s Chondola to the top of the mountain!
From the top of McDougall's there's so much to do & see – with incredible views everywhere you look, it's the perfect place for a spot of photography! You can pop up to the Skyline viewing platform for even better views of the Southern Alps, take a walk back down to Base or go for a more strenuous hike on the Captain's Circuit. If walking's not your thing, you can get back into a gondola cabin & ride back down to Base that way.
The McDougall’s Express Chondola starts right beside our Base area, so you don’t have to trek for miles through the snow to get to the lift, and in under 4mins you’ll be at the top of the mountain.
Just you, your crew and this view...
Our new swing is in place at the top of McDougall’s, overlooking Soho Basin. Come on up, check it out and get the shot!
Sightseeing and walking at Cardrona lets you immerse yourself in a beautiful alpine environment at over 1800m above sea level! Breathe the fresh alpine air and take in the stunning 360-degree views of the Southern Alps, Lake Whakatipu and Lake Hawea.
You can choose between a gentle chairlift-assisted stroll from the top of McDougall’s Chondola up to our viewing platform or back to Base, or more adventurous hikes into Captain’s Basin or even the summit of Mt Cardrona!
Make sure you check out our interpretive panels on your way around the mountain – they’re a great source of information about Southern Lakes and Central Otago history!
with the perfect backdrop
Start or finish your day (or both) with a trip to the Lounge for barista coffee, snacks, lunch, and an alpine barbecue on late night Friday. With a mountain-full of biking and carting action in front of you, and the Southern Alps behind you, there's no better spot to relax with a cold one and share your stories from your day at Cardrona this summer.
